The weather in 2016 almost put an end to Kevin Young’s dream of opening a diner.  He had acquired the old Humpty’s Classic Diner on 11th Street SE and was starting to do his own renovations. In July 2016, Kevin’s new enterprise was flooded repeatedly. He re-did the floors twice and didn’t launch until December 5, which marked the beginning of a cold snap. For the first week he was open, the daytime high struggled to get above -20.

But despite the cold, people came to Benny’s Breakfast Bar right from day one. Guests were drawn in by the cool 1950s diner décor, 10 different variations on Eggs Benedict and the option to have breakfast for lunch (or vice-versa). “I want to be a destination,” Kevin says. “I want to be unique.”

If you crave real Albertan excellent grub, then this is THE place! The food is tantalizing to the eye and very tasty. Servings are generous and I noticed repeat customers.
